Jo Malone: Brilliant Blossoms Review - PART 1
As the Earth tilt slightly while circling around the sun, Northern Hemisphere will start to receive abundance of daylight, transitioning into warm and breezy season of Spring and Summer. As per Jo Malone London’s tradition, they are accustomed to introduce new limited series as a celebration of the beginning of warm weather ahead. This year, we are treated with two series each – Blossom Girls and Hot Blossoms, both encompasses into one campaign called #BrilliantBlossom.
Blossom Girls celebrates the eve of Spring with the re-release of three light floral scents: Plum Blossom, Nashi Blossom and Sakura Cherry Blossom. Plum Blossom evokes the juiciness of yellow plums, tossed together with plum blossom while ending it with white musk to create a soft, juicy and blooming trail. The succulent cologne was first released in 2012 as a part of the Spring-limited collection. Nosed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, she envisioned the contrast of luscious juicy plum with delicate floral. Initial spray opens up to multiple splash of juicy fruit while being accompanied by floral notes. Its top note comes from the juicy yellow plum before its blossoms shines thereafter. After 6-7 hours, white musks reveals itself, ending the day with powdery textural scent while gleaming some hint of leftover florals. Overall my favorite out of the three for being clean and non-cloying. I paired it with Wood Sage and Sea Salt to enhance the musk while bring some pronounce woodiness (my fav!).
Nashi Blossom on the other hand is more playful, taking succulent nashi fruit and pear with a little bite of crisp apple while softening the concoction with rose and white musk. Crafted by Fabrice Pellegrin yet again, she encapsulates juicy nashi and pear into sparkling explosion of floral while dashing some hint of zesty lemon and soft musks. Upon a few whiff, I would call this the little sister to English Pear and Freesia. Nashi Blossom is more to a tone-down version of the highly popular English Pear sister, hiding behind the florals but yet evokes some juiciness of the fruit. This is sweeter than the other two offerings and you would be wanting for more after a few spray on your skin. If English Pear isn’t for you, try this instead!
Simply radiant and efflorescent. Last from the mix is delicate Sakura Cherry Blossom. Staying pure with subtle layers of cherry blossom, rose and violet while adding a little of sparkle with bergamot. Swiftly endears you feeling airy and pretty. Composed by perfumer Christine Nagel, she rejoiced the beginning of Spring in Japan with the poetic flowing petals of Sakura while blending in with rose petals and accents of bergamot to enhance femininity and elegance. Just as described, this is the most forgettable within the line, being airy but yet too soft? I was about to question the JM SA after she handed me the test paper which I could smell absolutely nothing XD. Super soft, close to skin and a very girly scent within the collection. Projection and longevity is the main conundrum unless shy cologne is what you seek.
