Jo Malone: Brilliant Blossoms Review - PART 2

If light and airy is not your cup of tea, Jo Malone’s big sister collection – Hot Blossoms is here to either quench your thirst or make you even thirstier! Jo Malone London described it as a carnival of scent, a few sprays bring out the energy of dancing through the streets, soaking under the sun which being drenched in bright colors. Inspired by Brazil, Celine Roux loved the vibrancy of flowers and juicy texture of fruits. She questioned, why not create two fragrances instead of one? Thus, #HotBlossoms is born with the all new fruit inspired Tropical Cherimoya cologne and Cattleya Flower Body Mist that derives from the Queen of the Orchids.

Cherimoya fruit or better known as sugar apple is native to the South and Central America. Men described it as the King of Fruits as one bite explodes into heavenly flavor of banana, vanilla, pear and strawberry – jack of all trades ðŸ˜‰Inspired by its mouthful and creamy texture, Jo Malone marries the fruit with a handful toss of tonka beans and copahu resin, making it exotically poisonous but yet mysterious and alluring. Tonka beans enhances the hidden creaminess of cherimoya by empowering the shy vanilla-flavors to join the fun. Otherwise, Copahu resin exerts its balsamic and woody accords into the mixture, tossing out more warmth into the scent while painting vivid visions of bright sun up above along the colorful and festive Brazilian street. Very tropical indeed.

My initial impression was funny, my face started off with urggghhh..? to ahhhhh… Full initial blast projects heaps of tonka beans with its signature creaminess while being accompanied by fruity accord from the cherimoya. Warmth were created beautifully by copahu resin, making you slightly thirsty upon first whiff. Somehow or rather, this cologne reminds me of Myrrh and Tonka with significantly lower intensity with the absence of nutty accords. Definitely a unique scent from Jo Malone as I would describe it as more opaque scent when compared to their prior releases while keeping the pyramid notes as clean as possible. I layered Tropical Cherimoya with Blackberry and Bay to squeeze out the fruitiness while seeping out an allure lustful vanilla creaminess. I’m not surprised if it does not appeal to many but one particular bottle has found its way to his permanent home ðŸ˜Š

Cattleya Orchids – blooms 2 to 3 times a year is a non-fragrant floral but with some exception on specific wild species. Originated in the Central and South America, they grow as epiphytes (relies on the host to produce their own nutrients), painting the habitat with bright blue palette over the backdrop of lush greeneries. It carries distinctively soft and powdery scent, with some hint of vanilla and musky sexiness. Cattleya Flower Body Mist which I believed, falls within the range of Eau de Fraiche concentration opens with the accords of citruses before revealing the velvety floral of Cattleya, deepened down by miniscule hint of vetiver as the base. Initial opening is full of juicy citruses before it reveals the floral after lingering on your skin for a minute or two.

In my opinion, this reminds me of Wild Bluebell, except being less green and skew towards fruitiness (very light floral). The depth which are inhabitant by vetiver added more fullness to the scent, making it plausible for metrosexual men whom are brave enough to embrace the Queen of Orchids. In my opinion, Cattleya Flowers should have been a standalone cologne rather than a body mist. It’s airy enough to join the Blossom Girls trio or standing alone as the star of the Spring. Despite being light, it would still come by and visit me during odd moments throughout the day.

If you are a fan of Jo Malone, I’m sure you are well aware of its ability to fly off the shelves any time soon. Try to stop by and take a whiff, indulge yourself with a celebration of scent – the best from Jo Malone London.
